Level 1

Has a basic grasp of photography techniques.

  • Technical understanding: You've proven a good understanding of essential photography tools and equipment.

Level 2

Is a competent photographer in their own right.

  • Execution: You've been able to produce high quality photography work on smaller projects, unguided.

  • Working to a brief: You've taken on a large photography brief and delivered according to the requirements.

  • Technical understanding: You've been able to find your way around all your essential photography kit for smaller projects.

Level 3

Is an excellent photographer, with work regularly used in live campaigns.

  • Execution: You've been able to produce high quality photography work on multiple major external projects.

  • Working to a brief: You've taken on multiple major photography briefs and delivered according to the requirements.

  • Technical understanding: You've been confident using a variety of equipment and techniques on major photography projects.

Level 4

Is an exceptional photographer, regularly working on entire high-profile campaigns. Their visual style has captured and extended the brand of the business. Is supporting others in up-skilling their own photography work.

  • Execution: You've been trusted by the business to execute to a high standard on the highest profile photography projects.

  • Working to a brief: You've helped to write and complete major photography briefs and ensured they're delivered according to the requirements.

  • Technical understanding: You're an expert in your photography tools, techniques and equipment. You've demonstrated that expertise and are upskilling others in your techniques, as well as inventing new ways of using tools.

Level 5

Is a renowned photographer, with internationally recognised work. Runs an internal photography studio of exceptional calibre, where all work is of the highest quality. Creates exceptional photographers in others.

  • Execution: Your photography work has brought attention to the business, giving your team the reputation of being best-in-class for photography.

  • Working to a brief: You've helped the team and business to better understand what they want, guiding multiple major photography briefs from conception to completion.

  • Technical understanding: You're technically best in class at photography, teaching and actively pioneering industry-wide discussion around best practices.
